Canada Day Dance

Thanks to Jenny, here is a photo of the Canada Day dance at Ridge Meadows Seniors Centre - caller John Corrigan, cuer Cheryl Plume. 15 squares approximately 130 people attended, some from 'over the border'. As always, a fun dance. Thanks, Jenny!

Summer Update

We were notified of the recent passing of Alice Fairbourn, who was a remarkable woman to her death at age 92.  The following is from the FVSRDA In Memoriam page.  Gaylene will provide information on the service when it is known.

It's with great sadness, we inform you of the passing of long time Swinging Singles Square Dance Club member, Alice Fairbourn, in Qualicum Beach. Alice was a strong woman and fought a strong battle with her Cancer. As more information becomes available, you'll be notified.

2016 Ice Cream Social Pictures

If you were there, you can probably find yourself at least once.  Below is one of Amanda with her well-deserved Driscoll Teen Award.  That and others are part of the photos taken by Robin.  Our boys Brent Mawdsley and Chuck Jordan along with Heather Wallace called a wonderful dance.  Our only complaint was that they wouldn't take bribes to get our table up for ice cream sooner.

Many of us celebrated Brent's 50th birthday and Amanda's graduation at the Mawdsley home on June 30.  Great party!

Brent's Bunch Update & Ice Cream Social Sat June 11

Hi Brent's Bunch,

I hope you're enjoying your summer.  I thought you'd like a brief update.  

Brent's Bunch Square Dance Club is officially registered & insured by the ​CSDRS.  Within the next couple of weeks they say they will confirm availability for the requested 13 Thursday nights in the fall (Sept 15 - Dec 8, 2016) and 13 nights in the spring (Jan 12 - April 27, 2017).  

By September the Pavilion will have air conditioning and new exterior paint and the old bleachers are supposed to be removed.

The Ice Cream Social Dance is this Saturday, June 11, at the Bonsor Recreation Center, Burnaby .  

Pre-rounds at 7pm with Heather Wallace, 

MS with Plus Tips 7:30-9:30pm with Brent, Heather & Chuck calling, 

lots of great ice cream sundae's & banana splits after the dance.  

If you haven't already got tickets.  I have a few more available at $15 / person.  Just let me know if you want them held at the door for you.

We have over 16 squares sold already, including 5 squares coming from the USA, plus the FVSRDA Driscoll Award will be presented to teen dancers that have made significant contributions to square dancing and their community.  It's gonna to be a great night.  I hope to see you there.

May 14 Visit to Rainbow Squares

A square of us had a wonderful evening with a group dinner out followed by the Rainbow Squares spring wind-up dance, and we again celebrated Brent's 50th birthday. We had also enjoyed celebrating Brent's birthday at the Swinging Singles on Tuesday night. 

The theme of the dance was Around the World in 120 Minutes and Barbara's hot air balloon skirt was a great hit. Happily, Tom and Bea rescheduled Bea's birthday dinner so they could join us.  Amanda cued, fresh from her victory at the Teen Festival as the highest level Champion Cuer and Caller.  The Senior Calling Champion trophy is back in the Mawdsley household, 31 years since Brent last won it.  Megan won as Junior Cueing Champion and she and her partner were the Pre-Teen Round Dance Champions.

Welcome to the 50's Brent!

To celebrate Brent's 50th birthday, we made our wind up a 50's theme dance as a surprise for him. He did not miss a beat, and called to the theme despite having no time to prepare. Just one of the reasons we love him! Thanks to the many visitors who made it such a fun evening, and to Amanda and Megan for calling and cuing. Press here to view snapshots from the event.

That evening we also chose burgundy and white as our club colours, and are working with Sandy's Badges on how the badges will look.

Without planning it, nine Brent's Bunch couples visited the Swinging Singles on May 3, some in our new club colours. The Singles were celebrating that Brent has been calling for them for 10 years. They will have their last dance of the season Tuesday, May 10 and a few couples plan to attend. Join us!

And Saturday May 14 is the season wind-up for the Rainbow Squares. We plan to meet for dinner at the Rusty Wagon across the street from Ten Mile Grange at 5:30 p.m. Pre-rounds are at 7:00 p.m. Let me know if you want a place at dinner reserved for you.

Welcome to our new blog!

We've changed our club name to Brent's Bunch and have set up this new blog to reflect the change.  Check out the blog to see what we're up to, and better yet, come visit!  We will be dancing until April 28, our wind up and "reverse" Mystery Dance where we have picked a theme but aren't telling our caller until he arrives that evening. 

We will publish our fall schedule closer to the time.
