Brent's Bunch is cancelled this Thursday, December 12, since Brent is having varicose vein leg surgery today so will be taking it easy for the rest of next week.

BREAKING NEWS**2026 National meeting this morning SAVE THE DATE

Dear Dancers and Dance Leaders,

This morning in a long meeting--thanks so much for all the time put in already, everyone!!--

we selected Penticton Trade and Convention for the 2026 National Square, Round and Clog Dance Festival  July 15 to 18, 2026

And a committee was struck.

Huge thanks to so many who have already committed their next 22 months to this exciting event.

This document lists the roles and those who have volunteered, with email addresses.  

If you want to help in an area, please contact the person chairing that area.

There are also 13 roles still needing people and teams .

I will leave this with you to ponder.  And to share with all your club and association contacts.

Welcome back everyone,  its a busy time with Summer winding down,  starting up all the fall activities, and travel for some. 

Just a few book keeping items and dates to remember. 

Valley Circle subscriptions are due at this time, they are delivered to the club  for $12, or to have it mailed to your home the cost is $24.  Please let me know if you would like to receive the Valley Circle and which method for delivery.  Payment can be made at any of our dances. 

Our insurance and dance fees are due for our association.  

FEES PER ADULT DANCER ARE AS FOLLOWS:
Canadian Square & Round Dance Society $5.00
B.C. Square & Round Dance Federation $10.00
Fraser Valley Square & Round Dance Association $0.00
TOTAL FEE PER ADULT DANCER $15.00

If you belong to another club no need to pay fees twice.  

Please let me know if you would like me to add you to Brents Bunch list for insurance.  Please include your name, address, and phone number.

Brent's Bunch Start Up

Hi Brent's Bunch Members & Regular Guests,

We hope you had a nice summer and are ready to resume dancing with Brent's Bunch on Thursday evenings, starting September 12, 2024. 

We are still dancing at Alan Emmott Centre, 6650 Southoaks Crescent, Burnaby.  It is located about one block South of Kingsway and about half a block West of Sperling Ave, on the South side of Southoaks Crescent.  It has a parking lot on the East side of the building and street parking on the North and South side. 

Fall 2024 Schedule

We will maintain the current schedule of doors open at 7:15pm, with Plus dancing with rounds from 7:30pm – 9:15pm.  We do not plan to provide any drinks or have a food break except on special occasions to be determined. 

The Fall 2024 schedule will include 12 Thursday evenings.

Hi everyone, 

We have recently heard another dancer from our group has passed away.

 Linda Anton has contacted a few dancers to let us know of Jerry's passing on August 15, 2024.  

We will have a card to sign at Sunday's barbecue.  If you would like to send a card, Linda's address is:

Jerry Anton was a member of Brent's Bunch's when we first started up but due to health reasons, he and his wife had to stop dancing.

Linda had provided the following message about the passing of her husband Jerry.  

It is hard to believe, but Jerry lasted only 3 weeks once we found out that he had cancer.  He spent the last week at Crossroads Hospice.

It is a family decision not to have a funeral or Celebration of Life.  We will have a private family gathering & celebrate the life of a wonderful husband, father & grandfather.  

In lieu of flowers, we as a family ask that you please consider making a donation in his memory to the |Crossroads Hospice Society in Port Moody.  

Jerry was a person that loved talking to people.  If he went for a walk he would talk to anyone working out in their yard or pass on the sidewalk.  He always had a good sense of humour.  Even as sick as he was in the hospital he still had his humour with the nurses.  

He truly will be missed.  I know I've lost someone very special.  

OBITUARY

Gerald Leonard Anton March 28, 1943 - August 15, 2024

Jerry left this world peacefully with his wife by his side. He leaves
behind his wife, Linda, of 57 years, sister Carol (Dave), son, Daren
(Christa), daughter Lori (Rick) and grandson Logan.

Jerry was born in Saskatoon Saskatchewan growing up as a farmer just
outside Saskatoon in the Clavet area. To this day he still owns a
small piece of land that his grandfather homesteaded on. As a young
man he started working for UAB and continued working as an insurance
adjuster throughout his life. Jerry and his family left Saskatoon,
being transferred with work to Victoria,BC, then eventually to
Vancouver where Port Coquitlam became home.

In his retirement years he enjoyed travelling with Linda in their
truck and 5th wheel trailer spending months on the road discovering
both coasts of Canada and USA and many points in between. While at
home he spent many hours with Logan at playgrounds and skate parks, as
well as many hours playing table tennis and floor curling.

Jerry had a wonderful sense of humour which he held onto right to the
end. He will be missed by his family and friends. Donations may be
made in his memory to Crossroads Hospice Society in Port Moody.

Another club member had a milestone birthday - congratulations to John!  Nancy once again treated us to her delicious and gorgeous baking and elegant display to mark the occasion.  We hear she will be celebrating her own in a couple of months.  Joe Barker will be celebrating his 80th in June.  Congratulations and best wishes to all three!

Brent’s Bunch Schedule Change - DARK tomorrow February 1

Hi.  Brent is off to Africa tomorrow for 3 weeks, and so the schedule he issued mid December is revised.

We had our first dance at the new hall last Thursday, and it is a lovely venue.  The room is spacious with a nice ambiance.  There is a small elevator for those who have difficulty with stairs, but the stairs were easy.  We didn't find the thermostat, but the windows open.  As far as I know, all fit in the parking lot, and parking is much closer to the hall than at Burnaby Lake.  If you didn't make it out last Thursday, we hope to see you February 8 or soon!

Brent's Bunch Cancelled for Jan 18 Due to Snow

Hi Everyone,

 

Unfortunately, due to the heavy snowfall today and weather reports expecting more in Burnaby until Friday, we will cancel the dance tomorrow, Thursday, Jan 18. 

 

Also, the Surrey Square Wheelers No Experience Needed dance tonight, Jan 17, at the Brookswood Activity Centre, Langley, is also CANCELLED due to the snow but will resume next week Wed, Jan 24.  If you know of anyone in the Langley / Surrey area who may be interested in learning to square dance please let them know.  Steve Edlund and I will be co-teaching this new dancer class.   

 

Stay safe and warm & we look forward to seeing you all next Thursday, Jan 25.

 

P.S. Square Dancers in Williams Lake, BC, don't let a little snow slow them down.
