Brent’s Bunch Spring 2024 Sessions – New Location and Who’s In?

Hi Brent's Bunch Members & Regular Guests,

As we've mentioned at the dances, the Burnaby Lake Pavilion is being renovated in 2024 so is no longer available.  We have been looking for a new hall in Burnaby on Thursday nights for several months and have appreciated all the suggestions we have received.  Therese has checked them all out and they were either not available on Thursdays or significantly more expensive. 

The best option we have found is the Alan Emmott Centre, 6650 Southoaks Crescent, Burnaby.  This is a beautiful facility with dance floor, run by the City of Burnaby and the rate is very reasonable.

Please share this information with your square dance friends and invite them to visit us at our new hall on Thursdays starting January 11, 2024.  

We will maintain the current schedule of doors open at 7:15pm, with Plus dancing with rounds from 7:30pm – 9:15pm.

A.      would like to join Brent's Bunch for the Spring session as a pre-paid, sustaining, member for the dates above and a nightly fee less than the visitor rate, or

 

B.      would prefer to visit Brent's Bunch when you can and pay by the night

 

C.      would attend Brent's Bunch dances if they were held on a Monday night &/or a Wednesday night (just in case we look for alternate halls to know what days would be most popular)

When I hear from most people, I'll confirm the schedule and fees.

Visit to Stardowners November 9

Just over a square of us had a terrific time last Thursday visiting Stardowners, where we retrieved our banner.  The club very kindly switched to Plus that night so we could attend.  Thank you for a great evening, Ray and Stardowners!

Hi Dancing Friends,

Get ready to embark on a Train-Themed Plus Dance.  The Brent's Bunch Party Train is pulling into the station, and we don't want you to miss the fun!

Time: 7:30 – 9:20pm for Plus Dancing with Rounds (doors open at 7:15pm)
Location: Burnaby Lake Pavilion, 6871 Roberts St, Burnaby, BC, Canada

We will have train-themed music and decorations, and sweet and savory treats.  

You are welcome to come as you are or dress in your favorite train-inspired attire – whether you're a conductor, engineer, or a passenger ready for the adventure.  I'll be sure to have my train engineer gear.

Brent’s Bunch Update for Nov 2023

What a great night we had last Thursday with most of our regular dancers showing up plus several guests.  Thanks for coming out everyone!

 

I'd like to remind you that I'm out of town for business this week so Brent's Bunch is canceled on Nov 9 and we are going to visit the Stardowners for a Plus dance.  They dance at the Centennial Lodge in Queens Park, New Westminster from 7:30 to 9:45 pm.  I'm sure you will have a great time. 

 

On Thursday, Nov 16, we will hold our annual "Train Dance" with train-themed music, costumes, decorations, food, and maybe even a new dance move.  Please invite your dancing friends to join us for this special theme night.

Captain No Beard Brent Mawdsley welcomed his motley crew to a Talk Like A Pirate Day dance on Thursday.  There were nautical calls, lots of great costumes, and t-ARRRRR-rible jokes.  Spirits were high - was that from the rum in the cupcakes?

You are cordially invited to join us for a swashbucklin' good time at our first dance of the season with a Pirate-themed party celebrating "Talk Like A Pirate Day".

 

🏴‍☠️ Date: Thursday, September 14

New Season Starts With an Arrrrrgh September 14

Brent and Ron treated us to a couple of duets tonight at Brent's Bunch.

You can catch them again Sunday, April 30 2:00 - 4:30 pm at the benefit dance for the Zajac Ranch for Children.  Brent and Ron will be joined by Ray Brendzy, Steve Edlund and Chris Knowles for an afternoon of Mainstream singing calls.  Brian Penny will cue the rounds.  Hope to see you at the ASAA Hall, 33889 Essendene Ave, Abbotsford.  Admission by donation (minimum $10/person).  Tax receipts available if over $20.

Reminder: Brent's Bunch is DARK this Thursday, March 23

On Thursday, March 23, the Burnaby Lake Pavilion is not available so Brent's Bunch will be dark, but we are going to make a club visit to the Abbotsford Grand Squares to enjoy dancing Plus with Steve Edlund from 7 – 9pm at the ASAA Hall, 33889 Essendene Avenue, Abbotsford. 

Chuck and I would be glad to give two people a ride.  If you need or are willing to offer a ride, please let me know asap.  Thanks!

Walter Witt

As many of you know, Walter Witt passed away last Saturday from lung cancer.

His Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 22.  Here is a link to his obituary with details:

Walter was a founding member of Brent's Bunch, and even after he was no longer able to dance, he accompanied Ilona to the dances and was a terrific salesman of 50/50 tickets.

Brent’s Bunch Update March 2023

Hi Brent's Bunch Members & Guests,

I'm looking forward to seeing you again on Thursday, March 16 for our St. Patrick's Party 7:30pm at the Burnaby Lake Pavilion.  We will have Irish music, decorations, door prizes, and refreshments.  Wear your green if you like.   

On Saturday, March 18, Scott Coon & I will be calling a Mainstream with Pre-Plus Dance for the Chilliwack Rhythm Reelers at the Atchelitz Hall, 6542 Lickman Road, Chilliwack, BC.  Plus dancing from 6:30 – 7:00 pm and Mainstream dancing with rounds from 7:00 –  9:00 pm.  You will hear lots of great duets and a little Elvis from Scott who is also an award-winning Elvis Tribute Artist (ETA). 

On Thursday, March 23, the Burnaby Lake Pavilion is not available so Brent's Bunch will be dark, but we are going to make a club visit to the Abbotsford Grand Squares to enjoy dancing Plus with Steve Edlund from 7 – 9pm at the ASAA Hall, 33889 Essendene Avenue, Abbotsford.  Let's arrange some carpools and enjoy the ride & a visitation.
